John Campbell Folk School

Located in Brasstown North Carolina is the John Campbell Folk School. It is a school based on folkehojskole or "folk high school" from Denmark. It was started by Olive Campbell and Marguerite Butler in an effort to improve the lives of the people of southern Appalachia through education while at the same time teaching and passing on the traditional crafts of the area. The school is located on 300 gorgeous acres and visitors are welcome. There is a Craft Shop which alone is worth the drive. In addition there is a museum and on most Friday nights a free concert. In addition it is a fab spot for a picnic and walking. The variety of classes they teach is stunning. Pottery, woodworking, gardening, cooking and baking, basket weaving, book making, writing, painting, mixed media, glass, metalsmithing and jewelry, blacksmithing and music are all offered. It is a must see.
